FATA: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s spokesman Shahidullah Shahid says that their new chief Mullah Fazlullah is in Pakistan’s Tribal Areas. He was in Afghanistan the time he was made new chief.
Fazlullah was selected as new chief after his predecessor Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a drone strike by US. The new chief is a hardline cleric and opposes to talk with the Pakistani government.
TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said that Fazlullah was leading their major Taliban group at an unknown location in the Tribal Areas (FATA).
“It is not true that Maulana Fazlullah is in Waziristan, he is in the tribal areas but at an unknown location,” Shahid told AFP.
Then-TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud was killed by a US drone attack in North Waziristan on November 1, while South Waziristan was largely cleared of militant hideouts by a military offensive in 2009.
Drone strikes are very unpopular in Pakistan but very strong source of America against Taliban and al-Qaeda. Taliban and Al-Qaeda have been very weakened by the drone strikes.
The only reason that Taliban hide their identity and location is the drone strikes. Hakimullah Mehsud was shown in video while looking at a drone flying above them. He was targeted on the same day.
