Naqeeb Mehsud

The Investigation Officer (IO) in Naqeebullah Mehsud’s murder case informed Sindh High Court (SHC) that the only eyewitness of the extrajudicial killing went missing.

The IO in his report to the Anti-Terrorism Court on Friday, asked to cancel the interim bails granted to the accused persons, including former SSP Rao Anwar and DSP Qamar Ahmad Sheikh.

The leading accused Rao Anwar, DSP Qamar and other suspects involved in the alleged extrajudicial murder of Naqeeb Mehsud also appeared before the court.

Dr Rizwan informed the court that the ‘highly influential accused Rao Anwar can destroy all evidences and can scare witnesses into changing their statements. However, effective digital evidence can be used to prosecute them. He called on the court, if the bails of Rao Anwar are not canceled he could influence witnesses.

Highly influential Rao Anwar can destroy all evidences and scare witnesses. It is important to cancel his bail.

Investigation Officer

IO Dr Rizwan states that the presence of two accused, Anar Khan and ASI Khair Muhammad, at the site of the incident was recorded between 1:55am and 2:15am.

The report further states that constable Shakeel Feroz is crucial link in the case. He was a close aide of then SHO sub inspector Amanullah Marwat and had contacted ASI Gada Hussain 18 times between January 13, 2018 – the day before the incident – and January 18.

Dr Rizwan has revealed that Feroz has changed his SIM card and mobile phones several times after the incident. Therefore, the report states, all the acquired digital evidences point towards the planning and execution of the fake police encounter.

The court directed to indict the accused during the next hearing on February 19.

There is enough digital evidence, proving Rao Anwar and his team to be involved in fake police encounters.

IO Dr Rizwan’s report says

The former SSP Malir Rao Anwar with his fellows had murdered Waziristan’s aspiring model Naqeeb Mehsud and three others in a fake police encounter in Karachi in January 2018.

Naqeeb’s father Muhammad Khan has filed an application in SHC to cancel the bail, after an anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted bail to former Rao Anwar on July 10, 2018.

Six members of Rao Anwar’s team had confessed to their crimes in Naqeeb’s murder and other criminal case on January 27, 2018. They had told an anti-terrorism court that they had conducted fake encounters with Rao Anwar.

In February 2018, thousands of people from Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had protested for several days in Islamabad, demanding justice for Naqeeb.

Manzoor Pashteen was leading the rallies and named their protest as “Mehsud Tahaffuz Movement”, which later became the “Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement” (PTM).
