Mohmand Agency — Members of Mohmand Press Club participated in a meeting it to realize the rulers freedom of press and media. President Mohmand Press Club Gul Muhammad, Ghulam Hussain Mohib and TUJ Fata ex-general secretary Hairan Mohmand led the day’s observations.
The tribal journalists demand protection and access to information without any doubt. “No ban on journalism” was the remarkable slogan of the tribal journalists on the occasion.
Addressing the meeting, MPC Mohmand president, Gul Muhammad, said that the tribal journalists had rendered unforgettable sacrifices for the freedom of press in militancy suffered areas of Fata. He said that some 16 tribal journalists lost their lives while fulfilling their professional duties in Fata.
Gul said that majority of the tribal journalists were compelled to migrate from their respective areas by getting repeated threats and shifted to Peshawar and other cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa . He said that it was very hard for the tribal journalists to perform their professional duties in the current critical situation in Fata.
TUJ Fata former General Secretary Hairan Mohmand in his address said that Fata had become practically a war torn zone, adding it was very dangerous for the tribal journalists to report any story or event without fear but would not bow down their heads.
Hiran Mohmand urged the tribal journalists to be fair and honest with their professions and always keep in mind that journalists could play an important role in construction and destruction on any society. He asked the government to pay serious attention to the protection of tribal journalists ‘welfare and development.
