Peshawar — A newly established engineering college is said to be the first in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) to start functioning within weeks, for providing quality education to the tribal students at their doorstep.
Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Fata Fida Muhammad Wazir said during a press conference at Fata Secretariat on Monday that the engineering college based at Sadda, Kurram Agency will be accepting admission applications during the current month.
“After developing Fata University (at Darra Adam Khel) it was decided to establish an engineering university in Fata,” Fida Wazir said adding that the government has also invited private sector to work on education in Fata. “We want to provide high quality education to Fata’s people on fast track basis,” he said.
The ACS Fata revealed that Peshawar’s prominent private institutions like Edward College and CECOS University will also open their branches in different parts of Fata. The Peshawar Model School will open its branches initially in Mohmand and Bajaur Agencies.
Fida announced that a medical college will also be established somewhere in Fata within next six months to create more opportunities in education for tribal students.
Fata’s people have been demanding Medical and Engineering Colleges and a Separate University in Fata while the Fata University is established in a local college’s building in Darra Adam Khel. Tribal people are in drastic need of quality education at their doorstep.
Fata Univeristy is the first ever public sector university of the militancy hit tribal region which currently offers undergraduate courses in about seven different fields to the tribal students.
The announcements are highly appreciated by the tribal people but the claims of quality education are dependent upon fully functional operations of the above claimed developments.
