Khyber Agency — Powerful suicide attack on Khasadar Force personnel near Karkhano market Peshawar at Wazir Dhand Jamrud has killed at least 11 persons including a senior journalist and Khasadar force official, Official Sources said here on Tuesday.
Senior journalist Mehboob Shah Afridi, ALO Nawab Shah Afridi and four other security personnel are among the 11 killed ones.
The sources said that an alleged suicide attacker was riding an explosive laden bike who blown it up as he reached the contingent of Khyber Khasadar force personnel near Karkhano market Peshawar at Jamrud subdivision of Khyber Agency.
The sources said that the target of the suicide attacker was the assistant line officer of khasadar force Nawab Shah Afridi. About 36 persons have wounded in the attack.
UPDATED: Lashkar-e-Islam has claimed the responsibility of the suicide attack. Earlier Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) also claimed it but Lashkar rejected it and also disclosed the name of the suicide bomber as Shahid who belonged to Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency.
Talking media men the political agent of Khyber Agency Shahab Ali Shah said that the blast was suicide attack whose target was the contingent of Khyber Khasadar force Assistant Line Officer (ALO) Nawab Shah Afridi. He said ALO of Khyber Khasadar force Nawab Shah and four levy force personnel were among the killed persons. The killed Khyber agency traffic squad levy personnel were Hawaldar Abdur Raziq, Sahib Gul, Adnan and Ashfaq.
The sources also said that a child Shahzeb Afridi, his father Shah Faisal Afridi and mother residents of Bara Malak Din Khel were also among the killed persons of the blast. Hayat Abad Medical complex Peshawar health staff sources said they have received 42 wounded persons whereas 6 among them have been died of critical wounds on their bodies.
Senior tribal journalist Mehboob Shah Afridi was also killed in the suicide attack on the Khasadar force. Sources said that he was near the group of Khasadar force personnel when the suicide attacker blew up his bike killing him on the spot.
Soon after the attack the security force personnel cordoned off the whole area and launched search operation in the surrounding areas of Jamrud.
The sources said that three cars and six motor cycles have also been destroyed and burnt to ashes in the suicide bomb blast.
It is to mention here that Mehboob Shah Afridi was senior tribal journalist, correspondent of Daily Aaj in Bara, former general secretary of tribal union of journalists FATA and former president of TUJ Khyber Agency.
He was laid to rest with tears in his friends and family members eyes at his ancestral grave yard of Barqambar Khel a village of Bara subdivision of Khyber Agency at 4PM.
